LTZ Rome

The first limited traffic zone  in Rome was established on the 16th of November , 1995 and was called LTZ Centro Storico.

The creation of this area  has three main purposes:

  • the preservation of the historical and archaeological heritage of the Eternal City
  • the improvement of weather conditions burdened by strong indicators of pollution
  • encouraging the use of public transport

Since the Municipality has created other limited traffic zones, scattered within the municipal area, and they are regulated differently for days, times and boundaries of areas.

So motorists  which don’t know the city well and intend to go to Rome, should  pay attention to these areas with limited traffic and its related decisions not to run into quite expensive  penalties.

The LTZ Rome and the usual parking problem  in big cities can create more than a few headaches to drivers, but leaving your car in one of the many parking-garage located along the line A and B of the metro, you can easily get around these obstacles to enjoy the city .

Let’s see in detail what are these areas, their schedules and their limitations.

LTZ Rome Historical City Centre

This area defines what is called the “historical city” and is marked by a daytime LTZ  and an nighttime LTZ which differ in amount of territory and schedules.

The LTZ Centro Storico is active and does not allow access to drivers without permits at the following times:

LTZ Rome Historical Centre

Daytime LTZ Historical City Centre

6:30am to 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday (excluding holidays)

2:00 pm to 6:00 pm, on Saturdays (excluding holidays)

Nighttime LTZ Historical City Centre:

11:00 pm to 3:00 am, Friday and Saturday (although Holidays).

In August, the night LTZ is suspended.

 

LTZ Rome Tridente

The LTZ Tridente more than a restricted traffic zone is a real environmental island, the first of Rome, where the restrictions for car traffic is the highest level, considering  for example that the access is not permitted even to the car-sharing services.

The LTZ Tridente is active:

6:30 am to 7:00 pm, Monday to Friday (excluding holidays)

10:00am  to 7:00pm , on Saturdays (excluding holidays)

LTZ Rome Trastevere

This LTZ delimits a portion of one of the most popular neighborhoods and most respected in the world of Rome, Trastevere. As for the LTZ Historical Center, Trastevere LTZ also it has 2 different limited-traffic area, one in daytime and one during night time  which differ by region and times.

The daytime Limited Traffic Zone Trastevere is active and does not allow access to the motorist without permission:

every day, except on public holidays from 6.30 am to 10.00am

While the LTZ Night Trastevere is active:

from 9:00 pm to 3.00 am, Friday and Saturday (although Holidays)

May to October is also active on Wednesdays and Thursdays at the same times

August night ZTL is suspended.

LTZ  Rome Night Time Rione Monti, Testaccio, San Lorenzo

In these areas of Rome where the Roman nightlife focuses, the presence of many bars and clubs has produced congestion during the weekend to the detriment of the residents. To relieve this problem the Municipality has created three night ZTL which are so regulated:

Active from 11.00 pm to 3.00 am, Friday and Saturday (excluding holidays).

In August, the LTZ is suspended.

Active from 11.00 pm to 3.00 am , Friday and Saturday (excluding holidays).

In August, the LTZ is suspended.

LTZ San Lorenzo http://www.agenziamobilita.roma.it/en/ztl-notturna-san-lorenzo.html

Active to 9:30 pm to 3:00 am, Friday and Saturday (although Holidays)

from May to October it is also active on Wednesdays and Thursdays at the same times

in August, the LTZ is suspended

The parking lots of Parking Roma are all outside the Limited Traffic Zone
